The Department of Elections Provides Update on Number of Ballots Left to Count for the March 5, 2024, Presidential Primary Election

The Department of Elections in the City and County of San Francisco has released its seventh preliminary election results report for the March 5, 2024, Consolidated Presidential Primary Election. According to John Arntz, the Director of the Department of Elections, "Today’s preliminary results report includes 22,898 vote-by-mail ballots counted since the previous results report issued yesterday." The report also revealed that "Today’s preliminary results report includes votes from approximately 45,796 ballot cards since the ballot is comprised of two cards."

As the counting process continues, the Department still has approximately 16,400 more ballots to process and count. This includes 8,900 vote-by-mail ballots and 7,500 provisional ballots. The Department's personnel will be working until 6 p.m. today to process these remaining ballots.

Director John Arntz also provided information on the upcoming schedule, stating that "On Sunday, March 10, the Department will be closed and will not issue preliminary results reports or an estimate of the remaining ballots to count." However, on Monday, March 11, ballot processing will resume from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The processing will be open to public observation both in-person and via livestream on sfelections.org/observe.

When the Department releases the next preliminary results reports, Director John Arntz will be available to answer questions from the public and the media outside of Room 48 in City Hall.
