Mayor Daniel Lurie is set to welcome over 8,000 attendees to the JP Morgan Healthcare Conference in San Francisco, marking a significant event for the city's economic revitalization. Last year's conference reportedly contributed more than $90 million to the local economy. This gathering is among the first major events during Mayor Lurie's tenure, with the NBA All-Star Weekend also scheduled for next month.

Mayor Lurie played a crucial role in resolving a three-month hotel workers' strike, which was essential for hosting the conference as planned. In his speech, he will emphasize public safety and clean streets as part of San Francisco's revitalization efforts. He plans to encourage participants to engage actively in this process: “San Francisco is open for business,” he will state. “I’m inviting you, as industry leaders, to not just witness our comeback, but to be part of it.”

The mayor's prepared remarks highlight San Francisco's historical influence on healthcare and technology despite recent challenges. He acknowledges these issues and expresses determination for change: “It’s a new day in San Francisco.” Under his leadership, there is an emphasis on urgency and results-driven strategies.

Lurie has restructured the mayor's office by creating four new policy chiefs accountable directly to him. These roles aim to align city departments towards common goals in areas such as public safety, housing and economic development, homelessness, and infrastructure.

He underscores that government can learn from private-sector successes: “Government can learn from successful private-sector leaders like you all." His administration seeks to foster a thriving urban environment by engaging local artists and attracting world-class events like this conference and the upcoming NBA All-Star Game.

Recent events have shown signs of progress; last Wednesday night saw 25,000 people enjoying Chinatown's vibrant scene with art galleries and restaurants bustling with activity. Lurie maintains high standards for success: “There are green shoots everywhere, but my standard for success is sky-high.”

San Francisco aims to continue its legacy of innovation across technology, medicine, and social progress by embracing failure as a stepping stone for necessary change. Mayor Lurie concludes by recognizing the city's current pivotal moment: “At this very moment, San Francisco is at an inflection point. And in this new era, our potential has no ceiling.”
