San Francisco's Controller’s Office has unveiled two key annual reports evaluating the city's public service performance and park maintenance standards. The Annual Performance Report for Fiscal Year 2024 assesses over 750 performance measures across eight service areas, including public health, transit, safety, and climate action. These evaluations help city leaders refine service delivery.

Controller Greg Wagner emphasized the importance of data in policymaking: “Good data informs good policy. We aim to provide something that’s a useful snapshot of our city’s service delivery performance — something to supplement the narratives that don’t always capture a complete picture of complicated issues.” Wagner hopes departments will identify strengths and areas needing improvement.

The Park Maintenance Annual Report includes interactive dashboards detailing conditions in San Francisco parks. Evaluations occur quarterly with staff visits from both the Controller’s Office and the Recreation and Parks Department. The tools aid operational decisions aimed at enhancing park quality.

In fiscal year 2024, three new Mission Bay neighborhood parks were assessed: Mission Creek Park (93%), Mission Bay Park (97%), and Mariposa Park (94%). San Francisco's parks are consistently rated among the top in the U.S., with all residents living within a ten-minute walk of a park since 2017.

The Performance Program, an initiative by the Controller's Office following Proposition C approval in 2003, ensures annual performance reporting for all city departments. An online viewer visualizes this data through interactive graphs and tables for comprehensive analysis.
