The Department of Building Inspection (DBI) has announced the implementation of new ethics rules, prohibiting all City employees from accepting gifts from individuals or entities doing business with the City. This policy affects DBI employees, including those dealing with permit applicants and holders such as contractors, architects, engineers, and property owners. Gifts are also not allowed from department vendors and permit consultants who have engaged in business with DBI within the past year.

The restrictions include gifts of food or drink meant for sharing in the office, as well as personal gifts like birthday or holiday presents. Routine courtesies valued at $25 or less, such as pens and notepads, are permissible; however, free alcohol is strictly prohibited. They have released videos showcasing various building projects and staff members. Their latest video promotes a job opening for a building inspector by providing a glimpse into their daily activities. Previous videos highlighted construction progress at new housing developments located at 22 Johnson Street on Treasure Island and 2250 Irving Street in Sunset.

DBI encourages viewers to like their pages for updates on future videos. Additionally, they have launched a webpage dedicated to job openings at sf.gov/dbi-careers and urge job seekers to visit frequently for new opportunities.

With significant rain forecasted by the National Weather Service starting Wednesday through Sunday in San Francisco, DBI recommends several precautions for safety during high winds and stormy weather:

- Secure all operable windows.

- Remove unsecured objects from outdoor areas.

- Check for any signs of distress around windows.

- Ensure construction equipment is secured if work is ongoing.

During storms, DBI maintains a team of inspectors available 24/7 to respond to building-related incidents. For emergencies or injuries related to buildings during storms, calling 911 is advised. Otherwise, concerns can be reported via 311 for investigation by an inspector.

The department expresses gratitude for public support and emphasizes safety during adverse weather conditions.
