Mayor London N. Breed's three appointees to the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) have been confirmed by the Board of Supervisors. Avni Jamdar, Steve Leveroni, and Joshua Arce will fill the positions on the commission, which is responsible for overseeing operations such as service rates, contract approvals, and organizational policies.
Avni Jamdar will occupy Seat 1, designated for someone with expertise in environmental policy and justice issues. She currently directs the Northern California region for Emerald Cities and has a background in community workforce development within the clean tech sector. "With a wealth of experience in community workforce development in the clean tech sector, Avni is uniquely qualified to help advance our work of engaging with communities to craft environmental policies with an eye on equity and justice," Mayor Breed stated.
Joshua Arce takes over Seat 2, focusing on ratepayer and consumer advocacy. He is a Special Assistant with the Northern California District Council of Laborers and has held various roles representing laborers and ratepayers. "Josh Arce has dedicated his career to advocate for better services and advancement opportunities for communities across San Francisco," said Mayor Breed.
Steve Leveroni will assume Seat 3, bringing decades of finance experience from his work in insurance and banking industries. He expressed gratitude towards Mayor Breed and the Board of Supervisors: "I want to express my appreciation...for the opportunity to serve the millions of customers who rely on SFPUC’s water, wastewater, and electric power services."
The SFPUC General Manager Dennis Herrera welcomed these appointments during what he described as a pivotal time for SFPUC as it aims to expand its clean energy services and make significant investments in infrastructure.
Jamdar will serve a full four-year term alongside Leveroni while Arce completes an existing term ending in 2026.
