San Francisco offers resources for small businesses this October

This October, small business owners in San Francisco have a variety of webinars and events available to them. Among these are training sessions on local employer requirements and financial analysis for businesses. The month also marks the second half of Latino Heritage Month and Filipino American Heritage Month, with events celebrating each.

The San Francisco Police Department's Neighborhood Safety Team is offering Business Security Assessments. These assessments provide recommendations to improve safety and security, covering aspects such as lighting, doors, locks, alarms, cameras, windows, garage spaces, access control, inventory protection, and operations security.

The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) in San Francisco has introduced a new service: AI advising. Luis Quiroz and Molly O'Kane are now certified AI advisors after completing Google's intensive training program. They can assist businesses in integrating AI into their operations.

A proposed business tax reform measure is set to be voted on in November. It includes increasing the Small Business Exemption threshold from $2 million to $5 million in annual gross receipts. If passed, it would exempt an estimated 88% of restaurants and 50% of retailers currently paying Gross Receipts Taxes. The measure also proposes eliminating $10 million in license fees and adopting progressive tax rates across categories.

Fall SF Restaurant Week will occur from November 7th to 14th. Registration requires Golden Gate Restaurant Association membership; however, small qualifying restaurants may receive complimentary or reduced fee memberships.

Most companies must file "Beneficial Ownership Information" with the federal government by January 1st, 2025. This requirement excludes sole proprietors and non-profits.

Heritage Happy Hour at The Blue Light will take place on October 10th from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. This event gathers heritage professionals interested in preserving San Francisco's architectural and cultural identity.

Upcoming webinars include topics like digital marketing strategies, business model canvas completion, local labor laws compliance for employers in San Francisco, and preparing marketing strategies for the holidays.

Shop Dine SF is an ongoing campaign supporting San Francisco's small businesses through shopping locally and participating in community events.

Filipino American History Month is celebrated throughout October with free events showcasing Filipino-owned businesses within the Cultural Heritage District.

Fleet Week runs from October 7th to 14th with neighborhood concerts featuring service members' performances across the city.
