Mayor London Breed and City Administrator Carmen Chu announced the departure of Nicole Bohn from the Mayor’s Office on Disability (MOD). Bohn served as the director of MOD since 2017, playing a critical role in ensuring accessibility of City programs, services, and facilities for people with disabilities.
Bohn advised City Departments, the Board of Supervisors, and the Mayor on accessibility initiatives and local legislation responsive to the concerns of Deaf and Disabled San Francisco residents. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she worked on accessible response programs and disaster management initiatives for people with disabilities, including Anti-Ableist Strategies Training.
Under Bohn's leadership, MOD advocated for disabled community rights and innovative solutions for equity in programs, services, and facilities. Mayor London Breed expressed gratitude for Bohn's service, especially during the pandemic. City Administrator Carmen Chu highlighted Bohn's impact on disability access citywide.
Bohn will become the Executive Director of the Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund (DREDF), continuing to advance equality, accessibility, and inclusion for people with disabilities through training, policy, and legal advocacy. Bohn expressed pride in the work done for accessibility initiatives in San Francisco.
Various colleagues praised Bohn for her commitment, leadership, and mentorship. Following Bohn’s departure, Jennifer Johnston, Deputy City Administrator, will serve as the acting director of the Mayor’s Office on Disability.
