The Department of Building Inspection (DBI) has announced a new process for permit application extension and withdrawal requests in an effort to streamline and modernize their operations. According to the DBI, all extension or withdrawal requests for unissued building permit applications must now be submitted via email to dbi.cpbrequest@sfgov.org for review and potential approval by a DBI manager.

In-House Review permit application extensions and withdrawal requests will no longer be accepted in-person, while Over-the-Counter (OTC) permit application extensions and withdrawal requests can be submitted either via email or in-person. Applicants for OTC extensions are required to schedule a meeting with the OTC manager to discuss their request.

The DBI emphasizes that regardless of the submission method, all extension or withdrawal requests will be reviewed digitally, and the determination will be communicated to the applicant via email. Clear instructions have been added to the extension and withdrawal form to guide applicants on how to submit their requests.

For any questions or additional guidance, individuals are encouraged to reach out to the DBI at dbi.cpbrequest@sfgov.org.

Thank you for your support and partnership in this endeavor.
