Today, Mayor London N. Breed appointed Stephen Sherrill to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors as the representative for District 2. Sherrill, previously the Director of the Mayor’s Office of Innovation, will replace Catherine Stefani, who was elected to the California State Assembly in November.

District 2 encompasses neighborhoods such as Marina, Pacific Heights, and Presidio Heights. Sherrill’s career spans both public and private sectors. At the Mayor’s Office of Innovation, he focused on transparency and accountability by directing resources toward data-driven solutions.

Sherrill is an advocate for housing affordability and safe streets. He is a member of Northern Neighbors, which promotes housing and transit improvements. He aims to revitalize Downtown San Francisco as a community hub while maintaining its status as a tourist destination.

“I am confident that Stephen will bring the experience and skills necessary to represent the residents of District Two,” said Mayor London Breed. “He is dedicated to making San Francisco safer and more affordable for everyone.”

Sherrill expressed his readiness to serve: “I am deeply proud and eager to serve the residents of District 2… We must build on the foundation that Mayor Breed has left.”

During his tenure at the Mayor’s Office of Innovation, Sherrill led initiatives like ASTRID, a database consolidating housing and emergency response data. Bob Fisher praised his leadership in tackling homelessness analytics.

Community members have voiced support for Sherrill’s appointment. Samantha Duvall Bechtel emphasized his dedication to business-friendly policies in San Francisco.

Stephen began his career under New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg as a policy advisor before transitioning into private equity focusing on infrastructure investments. He later joined Royal Robbins in marketing roles before becoming COO at Golden.

Stephen holds a BA in Political Science from Yale University and resides in Presidio Heights with his family.
