FOIA Request to University of California San Francisco Regarding Chinese National Students on June 3, 2025.

The San Francisco Sun, in collaboration with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, has submitted a formal request under the California Public Records Act seeking detailed information about Chinese National students at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF). Our inquiry is aimed at understanding the demographics and financial support structures involving these students within the university.

The request specifically asks for:

1. Documents or lists identifying all current students who are Chinese Nationals, along with their respective departments. If privacy concerns arise, we have requested a total count of such students and a breakdown by department.

2. Information on scholarships awarded to Chinese National students, including amounts and sources of these scholarships.

3. Details regarding any scholarships associated with the Chinese Scholarship Council that are awarded to students, either as part of or separate from the previously mentioned scholarship data.

4. Policies or procedures that UCSF employs to monitor its students, including those who are Chinese Nationals, to safeguard the university’s Intellectual Property and other confidential information.

This request is part of our ongoing effort to ensure transparency and accountability in public institutions. As members of the media, we play a crucial role in gathering and disseminating news that holds such entities accountable while providing essential insights to the public. We have also requested a fee waiver for this information due to our status as media professionals.

The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy supports this initiative as part of its mission to use Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws to reveal governmental actions and inform citizens across America. For more details about their work, please visit [stopsecrecy.org](https://stopsecrecy.org/about/).

We await UCSF’s response and remain committed to delivering comprehensive coverage on this matter.
