Mayor Daniel Lurie has appointed Battalion Chief Dean Crispen as the new Fire Chief of the San Francisco Fire Department (SFFD). Crispen, a veteran with 34 years of service, becomes the 27th individual to hold this position. His career includes roles as Captain in various city stations and recognition for bravery during rescues in the Tenderloin area.

Crispen’s experience extends beyond local incidents; he served as Incident Commander at over 50 major events in San Francisco and participated in the SFFD’s response following the September 11 attacks in New York City. He is a native of San Francisco, with family roots deeply connected to public service.

In his new role, Chief Crispen will oversee citywide firefighting operations and lead emergency preparedness and community engagement programs. The department continues to support efforts against fires affecting Southern California communities.

Mayor Lurie praised Crispen’s extensive experience and dedication: “With over 34 years of distinguished experience serving our city, Chief Crispen will lead the San Francisco Fire Department with the same compassion, integrity, and unwavering dedication that have defined his entire career.”

Chief Crispen emphasized his commitment to safety: “My number one goal as Chief of the Department is to safeguard the health and safety of all members of the San Francisco Fire Department and all San Franciscans.”
