San Francisco Mayor London N. Breed has signed legislation authorizing a 25-year lease for Bay FC’s new training complex on Treasure Island. This decision, supported by the unanimous approval of the Board of Supervisors on December 10, 2024, marks a significant step forward for the soccer franchise as it prepares to establish its permanent training facility.

The plans for the new facility were initially announced in September by Mayor Breed and Bay FC. The privately financed complex will include three core training fields and sporting facilities across eight and a half acres adjacent to existing sports-use land. “As Mayor of the best City in the world, I am so proud of San Francisco for being a part of history in the making by elevating women’s professional sports,” stated Mayor Breed.

Bay FC CEO Brady Stewart expressed enthusiasm about moving forward with their vision, emphasizing the iconic location within the Bay Area. “We are looking forward to breaking ground in 2025 and continuing to be a catalyst for innovation and change,” said Stewart.

District 6 Supervisor Matt Dorsey highlighted that this lease agreement will pave the way for constructing a world-class facility serving as both home and heart for Bay FC players while fostering youth engagement on Treasure Island.

The project aligns with ongoing redevelopment efforts on Treasure Island, managed by the Treasure Island Development Authority (TIDA) and led by Wilson Meany. One Treasure Island Executive Director Nella Goncalves expressed support for Bay FC’s move, highlighting potential community benefits such as youth clinics and employment opportunities.

Designed specifically for women athletes, Bay FC’s training facility aims to complement existing recreational amenities on the island. It is set to become operational by 2027 after construction begins in 2025. Until then, Bay FC will continue playing matches at PayPal Park in San Jose.

Anne Taupier from San Francisco’s Office of Economic and Workforce Development praised this development as an enduring legacy that will fuel economic growth. Fei Tsen from TIDA echoed similar sentiments about how this commitment mirrors their vision for transformation on Treasure Island.

Chris Meany with Treasure Island Community Development noted that locating its practice facility reinforces San Francisco’s newest neighborhood evolution while supporting local infrastructure through economic activity.

Co-founded by U.S Women’s National Team legends Brandi Chastain, Aly Wagner, Danielle Slaton, and Leslie Osborne; Bay FC recently concluded its inaugural season achieving record wins among expansion teams.

Mayor Breed has been actively involved in transforming Treasure Island into sustainable neighborhoods featuring new homes including affordable units along with parks, trails open spaces among other amenities under phased developments overseen through updated agreements approved earlier this year enabling accelerated public revenue into projects like Stage 2 which commences next spring alongside Bay FC’s construction activities contributing towards housing commercial corridor expansions among others initiatives planned ahead benefiting overall community welfare outcomes envisioned therein collaboratively achieved together thus far realized today accordingly too indeed!
