The annual allowable rent increase for rent-controlled units has been set at 1.4% for the period from March 1, 2025, to February 28, 2026. This increase is derived from 60% of the rise in the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers in the Bay Area, which was recorded at 2.4% by the Bureau of Labor Statistics in November 2024.

To determine the dollar amount of this increase, tenants should multiply their base rent by .014. For instance, if a tenant’s base rent is $2,000.00, the annual increase would be $28.00, resulting in a new base rent of $2,028.00.

For comparison, the allowable increase for the previous year, effective March 1, 2024 through February 29, 2025, was slightly higher at 1.7%.

Further information on rent increases and a complete list of past annual allowable increases are available both online and at the office.
